China Star Optoelectronics Technology to build displays in Optics Valley

Updated: 2017-04-01 (chinaopticsvalley.com)

China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) signed a cooperation contract with Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley) on March 31 and invested 35 billion yuan ($5.08 billion) to build a sixth-generation LTPS-AMOLED display panel production line in the zone.

So far, CSOT has formed a professional highly experienced team for flexible displays in Wuhan. The self-developed flexible OLED test product is produced to improve its performances.

CSOT’s sixth-generation display line project, namely the COST “t4” project in Wuhan, mainly adopts advanced technologies including flexible substrates, LTPS processing, high efficient OLED and flexible touch, to produce high resolution and flexible smart phone display panels.

The CSOT “t4” project is estimated to begin production in the second quarter of 2019 and mass-production in the first half of 2020. It will produce a total of 45,000 large glass substrates each month and create more than 5,000 jobs with average annual sales surpassing 10 billion yuan in target output.

Since 2014, CSOT’s Wuhan base began to produce the sixth-generation LTPS (OXIDE) - LCD/AMOLED project, namely the CSOT t3 project, with 16 billion yuan investment. It was the first domestic self-developed G6 LTPS LCD panel production line and achieved mass-production before September 2016, making a breakthrough in the international high-end small size display market.

As more companies such as CSOT and Tianma Micro-electronics settle projects in Optics Valley, the high-tech zone has gathered a complete industrial chain of upstream and downstream enterprises, showing strong momentum in the display industry.

By the end of 2018, the output of small-to-medium size display panels from Optics Valley is expected to rank top in China, becoming a global focus point for the display panel industry.
