Hubei boasts nine national high-tech development zones

On February 22, two high-tech development zones under the jurisdiction of Xianning and Huanggang, central China’s Hubei Province, were officially approved by the State Council to upgrade to national level, marking the number of high-tech industrial development zones in Hubei reached nine, the No.1 in central China.

Xianning High-Tech Development Zone, founded in July 2006, is now leading the development of Xianning and has formed an industry integrating advanced equipment manufacturing, electronic information, new materials and new energy, biomedicine, etc.

Huanggang High-Tech Development Zone, founded in July 2000, boasts four pillar industries relating to biomedicine, advanced equipment manufacturing, new materials and new energy and food & drink, which contribute to more than a half of gross industrial output value.

Statistics show that during the period between January and June of 2016, the total 27 high-tech industrial zones in Hubei completed 1,221 billion yuan as the total output value of industry above designated size, an increase of 13.22 percent. In the first half of 2016, the seven national high-tech industrial zones in Wuhan, Xiangyang, Yichang, Xiaogan, Jingmen, Suizhou and Xiantao achieved total industrial output value of 749.8 billion yuan and gained industrial added value of 235.2 billion yuan, accounting for 61.41 percent and 71.12 percent of all zones in the province, respectively.
