Major projects in Wuhan’s Optics Valley
Optics Valley, located in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone, is the birthplace of the first optical fiber and proprietary ultra-long-haul optical transmission system in China. Starting from the optoelectronics information industry, Wuhan’s Optics Valley also stands at the forefront of other sectors such as biomedicine, eco-friendly energy, modern machines and modern service industry. The Optics Valley Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park in has witnessed the most significant development in the past year.
Project 1: Gen 6 LTPS panels of TCL & CSOT
Address: Optics Valley Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park
Latest progress: China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd (CSOT) boasts the world leading low temperature polycrystalline silicon technology. The CSOT project is the largest single industry investment project in Wuhan since 1949. The fist primary device of CSOT arrived in Optics Valley on Sept.28, and the R&D building was officially put into use on Nov.30, 2015. Equipment will be settled and start debugging by the end of this year, and the lightening ceremony will be held in March 2016. According to statistics, after put into operation, the investment stimulating effect of the project could reach 1:5 and thousands of jobs will be created.
Project 2: Motorola (Wuhan) Industrial Park
Address: 1st part of Wuhan Eastlake Free Trade Zone
Latest progress: The project includes a Motorola mobile terminal global industrial park in Wuhan Eastlake Free Trade Zone, and the output value is estimated to reach 50 billion Yuan in 2018. The Motorola global center for research and development and quality-testing was officially inaugurated in Wuhan in March; the logistics distribution center in Wuhan Eastlake Free Trade Zone was put into use in May; Wuhan-made Motorola handsets realize mass production in June; by the end of September, 3 million Motorola handsets have been produced in Wuhan. >>more info.
Project 3: Gen 6 LTPS panels of Tianma Corp.
Address: Optics Valley Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park
Latest progress: Tianma Corp. adds 12 billion Yuan of investment to build another LTPS production line (G6), which is engaged in small and middle-sized panels with a capacity of 30,000 pieces per month. By the end of this month, Tianma will finish the design of new facility and start construction.
Project 4: Huawei (Wuhan) R&D Production Base
Address: Wuhan Future Science and Technology City
Latest progress: Huawei (Wuhan) R&D Production Base will construct 10 buildings, including 8 R&D buildings (5 overground floors & 2 underground floors) and 2 staff canteens. The annual output value can reach 6 billion Yuan after the first phase put into operation.
Project 5: Lenovo (Wuhan) R&D Base
Address: south of Linghua Road, east of Guanshan Avenue
Latest progress: As the largest smart phone maker in China, Lenovo has settled its biggest base in Wuhan. Two 29-floor R&D office buildings, a 3-floor podium building and other supporting facilities will be constructed, and 70 pieces of experimental equipment will be purchased. The base will be mainly engaged in Lenovo software development and a few of tests for terminal hardware products. 4,000 staff, including 3,600 designers and developers will be hired. When put into use, one out of every fifteen smart phones produced in China will be Wuhan-made.
Project 6: Optics Valley Global Public Purchase Transaction Service Headquarter Base
Latest progress: A 270,000-square meters Global Public Purchase Transaction Service Headquarter Base will be constructed in Optics Valley Central City with electronic transaction platform and information platform software and hardware. At present, the experience center has been put into use, and the major organization of the first phase of supporting project is under construction.
Project 7: AVC (Wuhan) Corp.
Address: Fenghuangshan Photoelectron Industrial Park
Latest progress: As the largest CPU cooling fan supplier in the world, the Taiwan-based AVC plans to construct 36 buildings in Optics Valley. The first phase includes 22 buildings, covering workshops, dormitory, R&D building, customer center, supporting facilities, public rental apartments, etc.
Project 8: YOFC Science & Technology Park
Address: west of Guanggu 3rd Road, north of Gaoxin 4th Road
Latest progress: As a leading optical fiber and cable maker in China, YOFC is second only to America’s Corning Corp. in the world. The YOFC Science & Technology Park will be built in two phases, and the first phase includes optical cable workshop, wiring workshop, power station, test center, chemical storage, etc. The annual output of the first phase is estimated to reach 6 million fiber core kilometers of optical cable. >>more info.

Project 9: Transformation of Xiongchu Avenue
Section: from Chuping Road to 3rd Ring Road (6.58 km)
Latest progress: With investment of over one billion Yuan per kilometer, the project mainly includes road, drain-pipe, bridge, BRT, traffic, lightening, pedestrian overpass, underground pedestrian path, environmental protection and landscape planting. At present, the viaduct linking Chuping Road with Guanshan Avenue has been completed. >>more
Project 10: Optics Valley Section of East Lake Tunnel
Section: from East Lake Plum Garden to Yujiashan North Road (3.9km)
Latest progress: As the longest cross-lake tunnel in China, the East Lake Tunnel stretches for 10.6 kilometers from Hongmiao Viaduct at the 2nd Ring Road to Hongjing Viaduct on Guanggu Avenue. At present, the major structure of the project has been completed, and the tunnel is scheduled to be put into use at the end of this month. By then, it will only take about 10 minutes to drive from Optics Valley to Pear Garden in Wuchang. >>more info.
Project 11: Speed-increasing reconstruction of Guanggu Avenue
Section: from Yujiahsan North Road to 3rd Ring Road (9.32km)
Latest progress: The Avenue is designed with a speed of 60km per hour. The project will open to traffic together with the East Lake Tunnel. By September 2015, major structure of Hongjing Viaduct has been completed and opened to traffic. At present, downpipe of the Viaduct, overground water draining and pavement reconstruction are underway.
Project 12: Comprehensive reconstruction of south section of 3rd Ring Road
Section: from Yezhihu Viaduct on the 3rd Ring Road to Luoyu East Road (13km)
Latest progress: The project includes road, bridge, traffic, drain-pipe, lightening, green landscape, etc. At present, the reconstruction of the road has been basically completed, and the whole line is opened to traffic.
Project 13: Changjiang Avenue
Address: from Zhongnan Road to 3rd Ring Road
Latest progress: The brightening of outer buildings and renovation of fa?ade have been finished; dewatering and separation reconstruction of main and assistant lane has achieved basic accomplishment.
Project 14: Metro Line 11 (the original Line 29)
Address: from Optics Valley Railway Station to Zuoling Station (19.8km, 13 stations)
Latest progress: This is the first metro line invested by Optics Valley, and also a part of the 70-km Wuhan Metro Line 11. The Metro Line will connect 7 industrial parks in Optics Valley. >>more info.
Project 15: Tramcar Demonstration Route
Address: East Lake High-tech Development Zone (35.4km)
Latest progress: Reputed as the “Tesla” in public traffic, the tramcar enjoys the advantages of pure electric drive, low carbon, environment protection, special railway line, etc. The 15.8 km-long T1 will be completed by the end of 2016 with a daily transportation capacity of over 60,000 people. The T2 is designed to be 19.6 km, stretching from Tangxun Lake Interurban Railway Station to Shanhu North Road Station.

70 percent of the permanent resident population (1.2 million) in Optics Valleys is youth under 30 years old. The planned population of Optics Valley is 1.5 million after 5 years. Now, Optics Valley is improving its internationalized work and live environment through international hospitals, schools, stadiums and recreational facilities.
Project 16: Wuhan Optics Valley International Tennis Center
Address: south of Gaoxin 2nd Road, west of Fozuling 1st Road
Latest progress: The Wuhan Optics Valley International Tennis Center consists of a 5,000-seat tennis stadium, 5,000-seat comprehensive pavilion and a 15,000-seat “Whirlwind Court”, which is the largest tennis court in Asia and the third largest worldwide. It also boasts the largest retractable roof structure tennis venue in China. >>more info.
Project 17: Optics Valley Branch of Tongji Hospital
Address: north of Gaoxin Avenue, east of 3rd Ring Road
Latest progress: The Optics Valley Branch of Tongji Hospital is to be constructed in 3 phases. The first phase, which has opened to public, has a daily outpatient capacity of 3,000 people, with 1,000 beds. In the future, the daily outpatient capacity will be increased to 8,000 people, with 3,000 beds.
Project 18: Optics Valley Science & Technology Convention and Exhibition Center
Address: Wuhan Future Science and Technology City
Latest progress: At present, the major investor and construction agent have been determined; the proposal for the project has been compiled. In the future, it will meet the needs of international exhibitions in Optics Valley.
Project 19: Optics Valley Central City Underground Space
Address: Shendun 1st Road, Guanggu 5th Road
Latest progress: The 500,000-square meters Optics Valley Central City Underground Project designed by Germany’s Obermeyer, a world top-level design office, and New Yuexi Park Project will start construction in 2015. With a wetland park on the ground and a “underground corridor” for shopping and entertaining, the Optics Valley Central City will be built into a three-dimensional urban area integrating business, recreation, office and traffic.
Project 20: Patent Examination Cooperation Hubei Center of the Patent Office, SIPO
Address: Optics Valley Central City, east of Guanggu 3rd Road, north of Shendun 3rd Road
Latest progress: With a total architecture area of 87,000 square meters, the project includes a administration building, two patent examination buildings and three supporting service buildings. The construction of the major structure is underway.
