2015 UK-Central China Investment Promotion Conference was held in Wuhan, capital city of central China’s Hubei Province, on May 19, 2015, providing a platform for more than ten representatives of UK enterprises to talk with the governments, enterprises and investment promotion agencies of the six provinces in central China, to explore future cooperation and development prospects.
The central China region refers to the six provinces (Hubei, Shanxi, Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan and Hunan) in the hinterland of this country. These provinces are China's important grain production base, energy and raw materials base, equipment manufacturing base and comprehensive transportation hub, playing an important role in this country’s economic and social development pattern.
Nick Whittingham, British Consul-General in Wuhan said that with frequent interactions, a series of UK-China cultural and economic activities were stages one after another at present. The Sino - British relations ushered in the " golden age ". It was hoped that the British side could strengthen cooperation with central China through this opportunity to optimize the situation that eastern China gathered the most investment.
British Consulate-General Wuhan was officially set up in March of this year, aiming to further strengthen the ties between the UK and central China. Barbara Woodward CMG OBE, British Ambassador to China said in a interview that the Consulate-General in Wuhan is the UK's first new post in China for 14 years. The UK's choice of this city for its new Consulate General reflects the British Government's strong belief that Hubei and Wuhan will be future powerhouses in China as the balance of its economic power shift to the center and to the west.
