The 17th Conference on Overseas Chinese Pioneering and Developing in China was held in Wuhan, capital of Central China’s Hubei province from July 7 to July 9.

A series of major projects were agreed as part of a deal concerning East Lake High-tech Development Zone, with investment totaling more than 30 billion yuan ($4.4 billion).

The Conference was founded by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council in 2001, and aims to serve the businesses of overseas Chinese residents and introduce skilled foreign workers to China.

The conference is co-sponsored by the Office of the State Council, and the governments of Hubei and Wuhan. It serves as a communication platform for business representatives from home and abroad, and promotes negotiation, cooperation, technology and trade, through the holding of forums and seminars.
Over 1,600 foreign representatives from 72 countries and regions plus over 2,000 Chinese representatives gathered at the conference to discuss innovation and development.

The East Lake High-tech Development Zone is expected to see 98 deals agreed worth around 39.8 billion yuan, including 1 billion yuan in foreign investment.
