Huashan Port, the only hub for both river and sea transport in China (Hubei) Pilot Free Trade Zone Wuhan Area, officially opened its first foreign trade routes on Jan 30.

Consisting of a port operation area and a neighboring-port industrial park measuring 5,000 mu (333.33 hectares) respectively, Huashan Port is one of the core port areas planned by the country’s Ministry of Transport and Hubei Provincial Government.

With 15 5,000-ton berths planned, the first phase of the port started operations in 2014.

The opening of the new routes marked the formal integration of Huashan Port into the international shipping system, as well as a new advance for Wuhan in becoming a shipping center in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.

In addition, the new routes will promote trade in East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China), speeding up the zone’s cooperation with cities in the Yangtze River Economic Zone.
