Foxconn Technology Group will build a research and development center in East Lake High-Tech Development Zone in Wuhan, Hubei province.
The research and development center will play a key role in the intelligent manufacturing transformation of the group. Around 5 billion yuan ($725 million) will be invested in the project during the first stage.
Foxconn’s Wuhan industrial park celebrated its 10th anniversary on May 19.
“Over the past 10 years, the Wuhan plant has shifted from a traditional production model to an intelligent production model,” said Chen Conghan, general manager of Foxconn’s Wuhan plant, during the anniversary celebration gala.
Industrial output has reached 230 billion yuan in the past decade, and Foxconn has created 210,000 jobs in Hubei.
Over the next 10 years, Foxconn’s Wuhan plant plans to double its industrial production value. The planned research and development center will cover sectors such as the internet of things, robotics and big data.
In particular the center will carry out research and development on data sharing, as well as smart office and intelligent teaching solutions.
According to the preliminary plan, the research center, covering an area of more than 6 hectares, will attract investment of 10 billion yuan in total.
