Optics Valley features in Xinhua and CCTV coverage

Updated: 2017-09-15

East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley) in Wuhan, Hubei province became the focus of reports on Hubei's development by China Central Television (CCTV) and Xinhua News Agency on Sept 8.

The report by CCTV News highlighted Optics Valley as an example to demonstrate that Hubei province is building its core competitiveness by strengthening innovation.
The report showed a number of innovative and creative products in fields including optoelectronics and geo-spatial information at Optics Valley Exhibition Center, which were mostly independently developed by domestic universities.

President Xi Jinping stressed the significance of independent research and development during a visit to the zone in July 2013. Hubei province therefore introduced policies to encourage more highly-skilled workers to strengthen independent innovation.

The report recognized the growth of Optics Valley in recent years. The zone attracted a lot of innovative projects including the National Memory Base project, and the number of market entities increased from over 30,000 to around 70,000 in three years.

The article by Xinhua put emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship in Hubei province, especially in Optics Valley, through enacting related policies.

Xinhua reported that the optical fiber industry in Optics Valley is legendary in China. It has become the first high-tech industry worth 100 billion yuan ($15.32 billion) in Hubei province.

The space-borne rubidium atomic clock and myriawatt laser developed in the province are some of the most innovative scientific products in China. The accuracy of the first specialized noctilucent remote sensing satellite developed by Wuhan University and related institutions is higher than satellites developed by the United States.

High-tech industrial clusters represented by electronic information, advanced manufacturing and biomedicine have all formed in Optics Valley and Hubei province.
