Motorola global research and development center settles in Optics Valley

The Motorola global center for research and development and quality-testing officially settled in Optics Valley in Wuhan, capital of central China’s Hubei Province, March 22, 2015.

Wuhan hence becomes the global manufacturing base of Motorola handsets. As introduced, the first batch of Motorola handsets will realize mass production in May, 2015, with an estimated output value of 15 billion Yuan (US$ 2.4 billion), and gross export value of 2.4 billion U.S. dollars.

The center in Optics Valley will mainly be engaged in quality- testing of all new products before mass production, which was previously conducted in Chicago, the United States.

Lenovo, a Chinese tech giant, plans to invest 2.2 billion Yuan (US$ 0.35 billion) in the future 3 years to construct a Motorola mobile terminal global industrial park in Wuhan Eastlake Free Trade Zone. The designed capacity of Motorola’s Wuhan factory will be 80 million.

Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone will invest a total of 150 billion Yuan (US$ 24.2 billion) in internet industry in the next 5 years. By 2020, the smart terminal shipment will reach 500 million, with the industry scale expanded to 800 billion Yuan (US$ 128.9 billion), becoming the top mobile internet smart industry research and development and manufacturing base in central and western regions of China.
