Lei Jun shares start-up experience in Optics Valley Startup Café

Updated: 2017-04-11 (chinadaily.com.cn)

The fourth anniversary celebration of Optics Valley Startup Café was held in its Capital Tower store on April 9. The chairman Lei Jun, and general manager Li Ruxiong, both attended alongside media, start-up groups, angel investors and government institutions.

The Café officially began operation in April 2013, jointly founded by Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi, and Li Ruxiong, CEO of Optics Valley Software Company. It is a coffee house-based innovation and start-up platform, integrating start-up communication, training, angel investment, and innovation and incubation.

Lei Jun shared his opinions on why start-up businesses are needed and what to do. He said that there are no differences in the original intentions behind starting a business, but a clear and positive mindset would greatly improve success rates. He also claimed, “When the dream is positive and motivating, it is easier to gather talents and get help when meeting difficulties, and people must stick with the dream.”

In view of what to do, Lei Jun gave three suggestions – to do something you like, something big and something prospective. He also provided other related suggestions for entrepreneurs, using the metaphors of Cannikin Law - that the capacity of a wooden bucket is determined by the shortest stave, and inverse law – the importance of improving strengths, to remind start-up companies to explore advantages while eliminating weaknesses.
