General aviation and satellite communications industry
The Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone will take the opportunity of opening up low-altitude airspace, focusing on the development of the general aviation equipment industry and accelerating construction of major projects and infrastructure including general aviation airports.It will develop airborne electronic equipment and related computer-aided design and application systems, GPS, and terminal, integration and application products pertaining to the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, speeding up construction of satellite applications and service projects including telematics.
By 2020, the zone is expected to have built an industrial system giving priority to small general aviation aircraft manufacturing, aircraft parts manufacturing, flight training, operation and maintenance, exhibitions and trade, and be host to satellite equipment manufacturing and application enterprise headquarters, creating income of 20 billion yuan ($2.91 billion) in those main businesses.

New energy and smart automobiles
The zone builds state level bases for new energy smart automobiles and light-weight material technology R&D, as well as a national new energy automobile testing center with a pilot road test and unified operation and supervision platform for charging infrastructure, to take forward new energy and smart automobile and car networking technology and make "leaving labs behind" a reality.
Propelling equipment manufacturing industries such as vehicle building, power assembly, power battery, and sensing and control systems to serve new energy smart automobiles.
The new energy automobile industry production value is expected to reach 40 billion yuan by 2020.

The zone accelerates the development of green remanufacturing from recycled resources in areas like production of whole automobiles and car parts or electrical and electronic products by Dongfeng Hongtai, Midea, Haier and Gree and other enterprises to actively cultivates energy-efficient industry, with a potential to create revenue of 10 billion yuan ($1.52 billion) by 2020.

Intelligent manufacturing industry
The Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (Hannan), referred to as WEDZ, will focus on in-depth integration of new-generation information and manufacturing technologies, developing innovative industrial chains of robots, 3D printing, intelligent equipment, and high-end CNC machine tools, and constructing a national intelligent manufacturing laboratory; all of which will create an important domestic industrial base for intelligent manufacturing.
By 2020, the value of the intelligent manufacturing industry is expected to exceed 10 billion yuan ($1.45 billion).
Robot industry
The zone will introduce internationally renowned industrial robotic enterprises related to research and development, design, and integration of intelligent manufacturing that are able to develop and apply service robots and special robots in the fields of education, community housekeeping, health care and assistance for the elderly and the disabled. By 2020, the output value of the robot and related industries will reach 5 billion yuan ($727 million).
3D printing industry
The zone will welcome enterprises in the research and development, process control, digital modeling, and post-processing of 3D printing materials, and in the research and development of metal, polymer, and ceramic materials and 3D printing key equipment. By 2020, the output value of the whole industrial chain will exceed 5 billion yuan.
Intelligent basic manufacturing and complete equipment
The zone's interest in this area is in development and industrialization of intelligent transportation, intelligent engineering machinery, smart homes (including appliances), intelligent lighting, and wearable equipment. Organizing and implementing demonstrations of "machine substitution", the zone will create a number of sample rooms on such topics as "Internet of Things factories", "digital workshops", and "intelligent factories".

The Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (Hannan) has several biomedical industrial leading companies, such as Wuhan Tongji Modern Pharmaceutical Technology, Wuhan HITECK and Topsun Group. The zone will cultivate, introduce and support a series of skeleton enterprises, famous enterprises and distinctive small and medium-sized biomedical enterprises. Industries such as biological pharmaceuticals, modern Chinese medicine, synthetic drugs and health services will be prioritized in the zone.
